Our charity of the year, 2019 – 20

The Friends of Space, the charity in support of the Space Centre in Preston has acquired a new partnership with Portergate Property Management as its chosen charity of the year for 2019-20. The Space Centre is the largest multi-sensory environment for anyone with special needs in the UK.

The Space Centre, which opened in 1993 and Winner of the Technology Award in The 3rd Sector Care Awards 2015, has two large soft-padded rooms and one non-padded room for clients who require a quiet environment, in addition to a Sensory Woodland Walk, as well as a new garden. All of which the charity supports.

Space offers a totally flexible environment for families, carers, therapists and teachers with multiple benefits such as freedom for clients to move safely, improving and building confidence and increasing learning potential.

Portergate Property Management, based at both Friargate Court in Preston and Riverside House in Salford, will contribute to the Space centre by acquiring volunteers for events, such as a fundraising and raising publicity about the charity. Most recently, the student and key worker accommodation helped with a successful bag-packing event in Preston and donated various gifts for the charity to use for various fundraising activities.

In addition to this, any acceptable goods or monetary value left by residents will be donated to the Space Centre to improve fundraising efforts.
