A Move-In Checklist for Preston Students

Congratulations on securing yourself a place at university!  Studies, independent living and the best part of all – city living in you student home in Preston! To make sure you don’t run out of space, here’s our student moving-in checklist to help you pack your bags…

From freshers’ freebies to shopping sprees to kit out your room, you’ll probably accumulate a lot of new things over the next 12 months.  So a good starting point when packing to move is to bring the bare minimum, packing only the essentials.  Furniture is included at Friargate Court, but you will need to bring those finishing touches and home comforts to put your stamp on it.

Here’s a moving-in checklist of things to remember for your very first day:

Form of ID

Cosmetics/personal toiletries

Toothbrush

Toothpaste

Toilet Paper

Clothes

Essential electrics (which will need to be PAT tested on your move-in day)

Once you have settled in to your student home in Preston, you can start to build on this list with the extra comforts we mentioned above.  Consider what you might be doing in a typical week and note down everything you’ll need along the way.

As most things (pots, pans, bedding & crockery) are provided within your tenancy, here’s a moving-in checklist to get you started:

Laundry basket

Clothes hangers

Shavers

Oven gloves

Clingfilm & tinfoil

Cushions

Rug

Blankets

Diffusers

Cellotape

Photoframes

Also think about any special materials you might need for your course – sketchbooks, paint brushes, notepads and stationery – lot’s of stationery! You might also need to think about clothing that is necessary for your course, or anything you might need for extra curricular activities that take your fancy, yoga mats and weights etc.

You won’t be short of places to shop in Preston, so it will be easy to top up on most items, so our top tip: don’t forget the irreplaceable things!  Sign up for Unidays, and Student Beans for the latest offers and discount on lot’s of top brands.  Your ID will get you through most situations but bringing your University placement confirmation may be a handy tool for when you start.

Student nerves are natural but remember to enjoy independent living and all that comes with it – exploring Preston, and getting to know your new neighbours, and the Friargate Court Team who are here to help if you need it!
